To The Stars And Back

A child-like interpretation of a heartwarming family road trip across America and into space aboard a vintage camper turned backyard spaceship.
This dark ride concept was developed as a passion project and was designed in its entirety by myself. Music is an important component in this project, so I encourage you to listen to the playlist I made while you look over the work!

This conceptual dark ride is designed to bring guests on a heartwarming road trip across the country and into space while cultivating a feeling of childhood memories and nostalgia. The story is told from the implied perspective of a child who has imagined their family road trip to be a trip into space. The scenes of the ride switch between real world landscapes as well as fantastic representations of our own solar system. Early folk and country music plays on a vintage radio in the back of the trailer applying a novel tone for both the real-world and space scenes.
The experience will primarily be expressed and fabricated through the interiors of a show building, except for an exterior facade and brief portion of the queue. Most of the queue will follow the interior of a suburban house. The family seems to be preparing for a camping trip, as seen with the camping gear and suitcases thrown about the space. The boarding area is themed as a driveway, in which guests will then board the warm and cozy trailer. Guests will sit at a table and gaze out the windows of the camper which will express the various scenes through screens. Finally, guests unload in an interior night-time campsite, complete with a campfire and tents.
This project was meant as practice for various skill sets utilized in the themed entertainment design industry. Feel free to click through some of the work below!
